It took a while for the weather to cooperate, but when the time came, all went well with excellent results. The crew removed a large water oak and a small trash tree. They worked well together and when finished, the job site was cleaned up nicely. They were friendly and informative. Neighbors were also impressed. I highly recommend Driscoll Tree Service.

Michael came out to evaluate some trees I had with a questionable fungus on them, and ultimately the course of action was removal for a select few. He got me an estimate for the removal within a matter of days. They had the most competitive prices out of the other estimates I got. Michael is a very knowledgeable Arborist and you can tell he is passionate about his work. He wasn't pushy at all about the removal like some of the other companies I had come out, and he advised me on doing it in "phases" to fit my budget. The actual tree removal and stump grinding itself was so smooth and all the workers that came with the crane and stump service were very professional and communicative about what the process was going to be.

Tree Maintenance Issues Homeowners Neglect

Trees add beauty to any landscape and provide many benefits like air purification, shade, and curb appeal. While these magnificent entities may seem sturdy and durable, proper care is vital to maintain good health and prevent premature tree removal emergencies in Auburn, GA. However, property owners may neglect essential maintenance tasks, causing safety hazards, health deterioration, and property damage. If you don’t have the expertise or knowledge needed, Driscoll Tree Service can help. As a reputable tree care company, we provide comprehensive services, including planting, pruning, fertilization, and removal. Let’s delve into the most commonly overlooked tree maintenance issues to help you make informed decisions.

Pruning Diseased or Dead Branches

secondary

The most neglected aspect of tree maintenance is pruning dead or diseased branches. Homeowners often assume that trees can take care of themselves, but leaving damaged branches unattended can cause problems. Dead branches are prone to breaking off during storms, posing a risk to people, vehicles, and structures nearby. In addition, diseased branches can spread infections to other parts of the tree, deterioration and unplanned tree removal projects in the future. Regular pruning by certified arborists goes a long way to maintain good health and prevent potential hazards.

Ignoring Root Health

The roots of a tree are its lifeline. However, they are often overlooked during maintenance routines. Many homeowners don’t realize that compacted soil, poor drainage, and root damage from construction can severely affect a tree’s health. Ignoring root health can cause stunted growth, yellowing leaves, or even the tree toppling over. The best way to maintain root health is to ensure proper soil aeration, avoid excessive soil compaction, and be cautious during construction activities near tree roots.

Overwatering or Underwatering

Watering trees may seem straightforward, but many homeowners either overwater or underwater. Both extremes can be harmful, hence the need to consult a professional tree service for guidance. Overwatering can cause root rot and fungal infections, while underwatering can lead to stress and high susceptibility to pests and diseases. The amount of water a tree needs depends on its species, age, and the climate. As a homeowner, familiarizing with the specific watering requirements of your trees and adjusting watering routines accordingly is vital.

Failing to Mulch Properly

Mulching around trees is a simple task that is often neglected despite the many benefits. Mulch helps hold soil moisture, regulates soil temperature, and reduces weed growth. However, improper mulching practices, such as piling mulch against the tree trunk, can do more harm than good. Excessive mulch can cause rot, attract pests, and suffocate the roots. Tree service providers and industry professionals recommend applying at least 2 to 4 inches of mulch around the base while ensuring it doesn’t touch the trunk.

Improper Tree Placement

When planting new trees, homeowners often overlook the importance of proper placement. If you plant trees too close to your house, power lines, or other structures, they can create future maintenance headaches. As the tree grows, its roots may damage foundations, sidewalks, or driveways, and its branches may interfere with power lines. Consult a professional tree care company to plan properly and account for crucial factors like the tree’s mature size and growth habits to prevent these scenarios.

Tree maintenance is an essential responsibility for homeowners that should not be overlooked. Neglecting vital tasks, such as pruning, root care, watering, mulching, and proper placement, can cause safety hazards, property damage, and unhealthy trees.
