I had a large oak tree taken down near power lines and an outdoor kitchen. I was well informed about the work they were going to do and how long it should take. The team was professional, fast and dropped the tree safely. They used a bucket truck and climber to trim branches from the top half of the tree with no damage to the yard around the tree.  I am extremely pleased with Driscoll Tree service work.

Trees are some of the most fascinating living things on Earth. They can live for decades, centuries, and some even thousands of years. Trees go through a life cycle from tiny seedlings to towering giants. It's just as interesting as any animal’s.

secondary

Sometimes they grow perfectly fine on their own. Other times, they need a helping hand or a trained arborist from a reputable tree company, in the case of serious problem.

In this brief article brought to you by Driscoll Tree Service, we take a walk through the life of a tree and talk about when it’s time to bring in a professional. If you DO need time-tested and reliable tree service, then call or message Driscoll Tree Service to speak with a live representative.

Stage 1: The Seedling Years

secondary

Every tree starts small - really small. A seed finds a safe place in the soil, gets enough water and nutrients, and begins to sprout. At this point, the tree is incredibly fragile. It’s basically a little green stick with a few leaves.

In this early stage, trees are more vulnerable to being eaten by insects and animals, getting pulled up by the wind, or drying out if there's not enough water - to name a few threats.

In fact, most seedlings don’t make it to the next stage. But when they do, they start growing into saplings, or young trees with stronger stems and more leaves.

You won’t need a tree company just yet in this stage, but if you’re planting new trees, a professional can help choose the best location, dig the right-sized hole, and set up proper watering to give your tree a jump start!

Stage 2: The Teenage Tree (Sapling Stage)

Now the tree starts to grow taller and wider. It develops a thicker trunk, more branches, and bigger leaves. At this point, it’s still figuring out its shape. Think of it as the 'teenage' years for trees; it’s growing fast but might be a little awkward.

This stage can last several years, depending on the type of tree.

Through these years, a trained arborist can help shape the young tree with careful pruning. This helps it grow strong and balanced to reduce the chance of problems later. If you’ve got young trees close together, a tree service in Grayson, GA can thin them out so they don’t compete for sunlight and water.

Stage 3: Mature Tree

This is the stage most people think of when they picture a tree: tall, leafy, and full of life. Mature trees are stable and able to produce flowers, seeds, or fruit. Some can live hundreds of years in this stage.

But maturity doesn’t mean they’re invincible. Mature trees are still vulnerable to insect infestations, storm damage, and diseases. Plus, their overgrown or precarious branches can threaten passersby, utility lines, roofs, vehicles, and so on.

If branches are hanging over your home, blocking your driveway, or looking weak, the it’s time to call a tree company like Driscoll Tree Service. Professionals know how to trim or remove branches safely without harming the tree - or your property. They can also diagnose diseases and pests before they get worse.

Stage 4: Decline and Old Age

Eventually, all trees slow down. Growth practically halts, leaves become fewer, and branches die back. In nature, an old tree might slowly decay and return its nutrients to the soil.

In a yard or public space, however, an aging or dying tree can be dangerous. Weak branches - or the entire tree - could become unstable and fall.

If your tree is showing large dead sections, hollow spots in the trunk, or heavy leaning, then you should have it inspected RIGHT AWAY. Careful pruning can sometimes help extend its life. Other times, a tree removal is the safest choice.

Stage 5: After the Tree Is Gone

Even after a tree is removed, the life cycle continues in its own way. The stump and roots can be ground down or left to decompose naturally. Wood can be repurposed, and sometimes, a new tree is planted in the same spot to start the cycle all over again.

Whether it’s planting, pruning, or removing a tree, the uniformed team at Driscoll Tree Service is here to help. We’ve spent decades providing reliable, affordable, and professional service to keep Metro Atlanta’s trees looking their best - and standing strong for years to come.
