Efficient, Affordable, and Professional what more can you ask for in a company. I had a big tree in my yard that needed to be cut down. From the estimate from Michael and the actual job being performed by his crew, everything was satisfactory. Including the clean-up. They’re also licensed and insured so that made selecting for the job even more comfortable. I highly recommend Driscoll Tree Service for your tree removal.

I was very impressed with how quickly and professionally they worked. They were in and out in an afternoon. They had to remove a giant Red Oak, and did so with great skill and speed. Their price is very affordable and beats out most of the competition around. I highly recommend Driscoll Tree Service. We will use them again for all of our future tree removal needs! Seriously, give them a call. They are awesome!

If you’ve lived in Metro Atlanta for a while, then you know we love our trees. Drive through Decatur, Marietta, or Roswell and you’ll see streets shaded by towering oaks, pines, and maples. For most of us, those trees aren’t just part of the landscape - they're part of life.

That’s exactly how we felt about the big oak in our front yard.

It was gorgeous. In the fall, its leaves turned a fiery orange that made our whole street look like something out of a postcard. In the summer, it gave us much-needed shade when Atlanta’s heat and humidity got unbearable. Neighbors would stop on their evening walks to compliment it. It felt like a family member.

But here’s the thing about trees: they don’t just grow up. They grow out. And sometimes, they grow all around. Here's why we wish we called a professional tree company like Driscoll Tree Service sooner!

The First Signs Something Was Wrong

secondary

At first, we didn’t notice anything. The grass around the base of the tree stopped looking quite as healthy, but we figured it was just from lack of water. Then one day, while sweeping the porch, I noticed a thin crack running along the edge of the foundation.

"Probably nothing," I thought. Old homes in Atlanta settle all the time. But the next season, the crack had widened. Soon enough, another one appeared inside up the drywall in the living room.

We called in a contractor. They didn’t waste any time pointing out the culprit: our beloved oak. Its roots were stretching out like underground arms looking for water and nutrients. Unfortunately, those roots were also making their way right under our foundation.

When a Beautiful Tree Becomes a Big Problem

Nobody likes to think about getting rid of a tree they’ve grown attached to, but sometimes a tree removal is necessary. Roots don’t care about your driveway, your foundation, or your water lines - they just do what nature designed them to do.

And in Georgia, where clay soil shifts a lot, those roots can cause serious damage - fast! Think foundation cracks, lifted sidewalks... even broken sewer pipes. Trust me, you don’t want that bill.

Calling in the Pros

That’s when we realized this was way out of our DIY league. We needed a tree service professional. But not just anyone with a chainsaw. We wanted a professional tree company that knew how to handle a situation like this without making things worse.

After a couple of phone calls and some neighborly recommendations, we found Driscoll Tree. They were different from the start. They showed up in uniform, walked us through the options, and gave us a clear and upfront price quote. No pushy sales talk - just straight answers.

They explained that not every problem requires tree removal. Sometimes strategic root pruning or trimming can save both the tree and your property. But in our case, the oak’s size and location made removal the only safe option.

As heartbreaking as it was, we had to say goodbye to our front-yard giant.

The Day of the Removal

On the morning of the job, the crew rolled up with equipment that looked like it belonged on a movie set. There were ropes, harnesses, bucket trucks, and wood chippers. It was clear these folks knew what they were doing.

The work was done carefully, piece by piece, with one guy up in the canopy cutting sections while the ground crew kept everything safe and organized. They even took the time to explain what was happening so we didn’t feel left out of the process.

By the end of the day, the oak was gone, and our yard was spotless. Was it bittersweet? Absolutely. But it was also a huge relief knowing our foundation wasn’t going to get any worse. Now, we're recalibrating and settling in again. There's a lot to do with this much space!
